Cincinnati Zoo officials says that the female gorilla baby was named Gladys stone. That derives from Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas, where he was born on 29 January, and from zoo employees Jerry and Cindy stones there. They cared for the child at the zoo of Texas because his mother has displayed a lack of maternal care.
The zoos agreed that it was better to transfer the child at the Cincinnati Zoo, where two female Gorillas is available to serve as potential surrogate mothers. Cincinnati Zoo workers over the coming months will help prepare Gladys to join the other gorillas.
Cincinnati Zoo officials said Friday, the baby is growing and doing well.
