The Giver

The Giver has sold six million copies worldwide and is one of the masterpieces of literature "dystopian" which had as its highest literary expression "1984" by George Orwell. Besides being much debated in the United States was also criticized by several schools for its references esplitici euthanasia.
Jonas, the protagonist of the novel, is a twelve year old who lives in a society
"Perfect". She envisioned a society where everything is controlled mainly emotions and drives. The world is ruled by strict laws that have as their ultimate goal the maintenance of peace and well-being, but at a price. In society "perfect" emotional control has eliminated the pain, suffering, hunger, war with them but also the love, joy, colors, music, diversity, memory.
In order to keep everyone in check the "Company" has aligned the whole humankind, there are such men to physical and psychological living in peace because there is no difference, other than the fact is "discharged" (eliminated).
At the completion of the twelfth year, each child receives his assignment in life, Jonas is given the most prestigious, that of "accommodating of memories," he will, thanks to an elder called The Giver (The Giver) to receive all the memories of the joys , of pain, there were a variety of time and that were censored in the mind of the multitude, but kept by the controllers to remember what would happen if the company would return the emotions.
