Flashback Trojan Has Infected More Than 600,000 Mac Computers

Users of Apple must keep our eyes open and defend Flashback: malware, which, under the guise of a Flash update, exploits a vulnerability in the Java client and installs on the computers of unsuspecting owners to steal passwords and login data, monitor the user's online activities and, apparently, also hijack your computer to a botnet.

The alarm has been launched by computer security company F-Secure, who explained how the trojan, which began circulating in October 2011, has become particularly virulent in recent weeks. 600,000 Macs are already affected by Flashback: 50% of infections regards the United States - even with 274 cases in Cupertino, Apple's headquarters - while in Italy there is a modest 0.3% on the total number of infections.

Apple immediately ran for cover, releasing a patch that should solve the shortcomings of Java 1.6.0_29 and recommending that users install the update as soon as possible. The company's Apple assures the patch solves the problem entirely. F-Secure, however, continues to invite users to enable Java only if clearly needed.
