DWI charge for NY man asleep in car at drive-thru

NEWSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — You want a wake-up call with that?

State police say troopers were called to a western New York McDonald's last weekend for a report of a man asleep behind the wheel of a car in the drive-thru lane.

When troopers arrived at the fast-food restaurant in the Erie County town of Newstead at about 2 a.m. Saturday, they found the 32-year-old driver sleeping at the wheel of his car with the engine running.

The troopers woke him up and gave him sobriety tests, which he failed. Police say he was charged with driving while intoxicated for having a blood-alcohol content of 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Troopers say the man lives in Newstead, a rural town 20 miles east of Buffalo.

PA. man gets farewell drive-thru after the funeral

YORK, PA. (AP) — Mourners at the funeral of a fast-food fans in Pennsylvania wanted him to have his way, so they arranged for her hearse — and the rest of the procession — do a drive-thru last visit before reaching the cemetery.

David Kime Jr. «lived by his own rules, "said his daughter Linda Phiel. He regarded the lettuce on a hamburger his version of healthy eating, he said.

To give it a whopper of a farewell Saturday, the funeral procession stopped at a Burger King where bereavement has gotten a sandwich in the street.

Kime got one last patties too, reported the York Daily Record. It was placed atop his casket flag to the cemetery.

Phiel said that the display was not a joke, but rather a happy way to honor her father and the things that brought him joy.

"She lived a wonderful life and on his own terms," he said.

Kime, 88, a veteran of World War II, died on Jan. 20.

Restaurant Manager Margaret Hess said he knew his face and his order. She and her crew made 40 hamburgers for the funeral procession.

"It's nice to know that he was a loyal customer to the end, at the end," he said.
