This is one bumpy road!

A support pillar for a busy Wisconsin bridge that serves an interstate highway has sank into the ground, causing a dip in the roadway that’s hundreds of feet long.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials said Wednesday the Leo Frigo Bridge near Green Bay could be closed for up to a year as engineers work to repair the 400-foot stretch of road, Fox 11 reports.

DOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb said the bridge is “not in any danger of collapse,” and previous inspections revealed no flaws in the bridge’s structure.

Travelers called 911 early Wednesday to report the dip in the bridge. It was later shut down by police while an investigation continues.

“That bridge is sagging in the center. I came over with a tractor-trailer and she jumped that, the wheels came off. There’s something that’s not quite right,” one caller told 911.

The Leo Frigo Bridge is supported by dozens of concrete piers that are dug deep into the ground, but one of the piers sank 3 feet, Fox 11 reports.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said the cost of repairing the bridge is unknown.

Quack! Wisconsin bill would legalize duck races

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin lawmaker is introducing a bill, no pun intended, that would legalize duck races.

Well, not real ducks but the plastic ones with numbers on the bottom. Nonprofit organizations commonly race the little plastic ducks as fundraisers. Participants usually buy a raffle ticket corresponding with a duck's number.

The first to float across the finish line wins.

State Rep. Andre Jacque circulated a proposal Thursday to legalize the races. He says the village of Mishicot was warned by the Wisconsin Department of Justice that its annual rubber duck race amounts to illegal gambling.

Jacque's bill creates an exemption for duck races, similar to laws in Minnesota and Michigan.

Rubber duck races in Wisconsin include the "Ducktona 500" in Sheboygan Falls and the "Lucky Ducky Derby" in Menomonee Falls.

Wisconsin boy gets handwritten response from Biden

MILWAUKEE (AP) — It might not be unusual for schoolchildren to write to the president or vice president. But one Wisconsin boy got an unexpectedly personal response.

The 7-year-old, second-grade student at Downtown Montessori Academy wrote a letter to Vice President Joe Biden and other officials a few months ago with a simple idea for making the world safer.

His teacher Jenny Aicher says his letter suggested that if guns shot chocolate bullets, no one would get hurt.

The student — and the rest of the school — got a surprise Monday when Biden's handwritten response arrived in the mail.

In the note, the vice president says he agrees that chocolate bullets would make the country safer and happier. The note concludes: "People love chocolate. You are a good boy, Joe Biden."
